My college girlfriends and I had this phrase we used to use when you have one of those "golden" evenings and everything seems to be going your way. Say, everyone is having a great hair day/night, you pull into the front parking spot at a busy downtown bar, or all of the best songs are playing all night long - as if you had a personal playlist in your back pocket.
Last night, my friends, was one of those nights.
One of the groups of people that I have only recently become close with are the incredible women who are members of the IPC "Twenties" Group. The church that my old roommate and I stumbled upon has only recently offered a Thursday night bible study for those "inbetweeners" of the church. Often, when you graduate from college/graduate school but aren't married yet, or don't have children yet, church can be a place where it's hard for you to find your niche. But every Thursday night since about January I have joined the circle of chairs upstairs in the Fellowship building to talk work, religion, life, relationships, money, and everything else deemed 'Young Professional' with several awesome ladies and gents.
The group is about 30 or so and I have recently gotten really close with a few of the girls. We have lots of co-ed social events, but have sort of broken off from the boys/men of the group in the past few weeks to have some girly fun. We started a book club, have had a movie night, done some beer/cider tasting, and last night was our first successful, INAUGURAL Ladies Night!
I started the night with a rooftop beverage with a few of the ladies after an EXHAUSTING week of travel, job searching and setting up my classroom for our festival (pictures to come!)...and it was the perfect weekend kick off. The dinner we had was delicious, the conversation hilarious and heart-warming all at the same time and amazing music! We ended up heading back to the roof after we ate to shake it (in a huge circle of girls - fending off any "wierdos" like at a middle school dance) to tons of Motown and continued to celebrate! There are so many fun things going on with everyone - new jobs, finishing huge graduate school projects or medical school exams, celebrating the end of another school year, and enjoying the general spring merriment of the warm, beautiful south.
Of course the boys were jealous that they weren't included and ended up begging their way into spending some time with us. It was fun to have a few southern gentlemen on the dance floor to dip and twirl with and walk to the next bar alongside. They were making us giggle so hard! We did often remind them, however, that the girls were in charge (when they tried to persuade us to try a new place we weren't too keen on) and that they were lucky to be included.
There's nothing better than getting completely silly with your buddies. Vic and I were pretending that we were at prom, everytime someone said something funny everyone was trying to write it down in our quote book, and we were certainly clinking glasses ALL night - cheers to this, cheers to that!
These women are so inspiring and I love their company. They have ALL taught me to remain open to all that being young and single can throw on your plate, to never say no to a first date, to laugh at myself, and that there are always new people to meet and friends to find.

Cheers!
